I have very thick hair - thinning scissors now?

I'm thinking about making my hair a bit thinner. My hair is VERY thick. It's 2.5 inches long and it's black. Am I ready to go to a barber shop and have them use thinning scissors? I don't want it extremely thinned out, but just to the point where it doesn't look frizzy and I don't want my hair to look like a freaking bush. Think it could work out?

Any past experiences with having your hair thinned with these scissors? Thanks.

Thinning scissors are a Godsend for those of us "cursed" with obscenely thick hair.. every cut or trim I get I make sure they thin my hair.. works great if you go to someone who knows what they are doing.. I suggest you go to a well known salon in your area where they are more likely to know what they are doing.. if the hairdresser asks "WHAT?" then say nevermind and try somewhere else.. after you have your hair thinned you will notice a HUGE difference.. its the best feeling ever.. ha-ha.. good luck I hope this helps

I have to have thinning shears used every time i get my hair cut. They work fine, just dont let them go overboard. My hairdresser always uses them and i love it after she does.

I have really thick hair also...Everytime I had my hair cut I would have them thin it out...Really doesnt do much because its so thick

IT'll work, my friend's hair is REALLY thick and her mom thinned her hair with thinning shears for horses.. which only costs like 6 bucks and it turned out really good.

yeah totally. my friend had it done. she was asian (haha still is) and had THIIIIIIIICK hair. so thick! got thinning scissors done, and so much better. not too dramatic looking, just nice and smooth and light. go for it!

I've got very thick frizzy curly hair and had it thinned by having layers put in it. It looked great at the time and for a little while after; however once my hair grew again the frizz came back and because it was in different layers certain areas stuck out :/ it took about three years to grow out - But I guess if you have it thinned regularly it would work really well!
