layering makes your hair thinner, but it doesn't neccessicarily make it lay flatter because all of the layers chop it up some.

i think so

Layering your hair is actually recommended for more volume. So if you wanted to thin it out you probably wouldn't want to layer it. I suppose it would depend on the texture of your hair though. If it's super straight and they used a razor on the diagonal that might thin it out.

Having it layered will thin it out,,mine is layered and is easy to style,,just blow dry and your on your way

I have really really choppy layers because it looks best on me..but My hair used to be all one length and was to my butt..It was heavy and a major headache..With my layers..it made it thinner and lighter!

I have thick curly hair and in my experience, layering makes it more bushy and full. You might ask them to use some thinning shears on it, that works somewhat. I use biolage ultra hydrating shampoo and conditioning balm and follow it with their curl defining creme. That tames a lot of the wildness and frizzness. Matrix also makes a line called Sleek and Shine that I use when I straighten it with a flat iron.

If you layer your hair, it will take some bulk out. It depends how much you are willing to layer your hair, though. For example, are you just getting face-framing layers, are you getting layers all around (front and back), how long is your hair and how high up are you getting layers cut??? Get your hair layered first, and then look at it and decided if you still need to thin it out more (via thinning shears or razering). I have long, uber-thick hair that I keep layered and thinned out. Neither will flatten your hair. I find that layering actually gives my hair lift, and thinning makes it more manageble. Good luck!
